Fixing EPG "No Information" Errors
Fix EPG "No Information" errors: a practical EPG troubleshooting guide for missing, stale and mismatched programme guide data.
If an IPTV channel plays but the guide says "No Information", the stream and the EPG are usually separate parts of the setup. The channel can work perfectly even when its guide metadata is missing, stale or mismatched. Diagnose the EPG side on its own, before touching the stream.
Start simply: refresh the guide and let it reload, confirm the service actually supplies EPG data, and see whether the problem affects all channels or only some. Avoid deleting or reinstalling the app first — a reinstall rarely fixes missing guide data and can remove local settings, depending on the app and platform.
What Does "No Information" Mean?
In IPTV, the video stream and the guide metadata travel separately. A channel can play normally while its guide row stays blank, because the player has video but no usable programme entry for that slot. When no entry is available, players show placeholders such as "No Information" or "No Programme Information". The wording varies by player.
That message does not automatically mean the channel is offline, the playlist is broken, or your internet is too slow. It only means the player currently has no programme entry to display for that channel at that moment.
For how guide data fits into the wider setup, our explainer on what an EPG is covers the basics.
Why EPG Data Goes Missing
Guide data can go missing for several reasons, and more than one can be present at once:
- the provider does not supply EPG for that channel
- the EPG source is temporarily unavailable
- a stale or failed guide refresh
- the source URL is incorrect or outdated
- the channel is mapped to the wrong EPG ID
- the channel has no matching EPG entry in the supplied data
- the player has not loaded the source yet
- the source data itself is incomplete
- a timezone or offset makes entries appear at the wrong time rather than truly missing
None is guaranteed, and the same symptom can have different causes on different services. Use the list as a starting point, not a verdict.
Check Whether the Problem Affects All Channels
This distinction is guidance, not an absolute rule, but it narrows the search: check whether the blank guide affects all or nearly all channels, or only a few.
If all or nearly all channels say "No Information", check the EPG source's availability and configuration, whether the last refresh failed, and whether the service or account is affected. An outage or a failed refresh can leave the whole guide empty.
If only some channels are blank, look closer at mapping and per-channel data: an incorrect EPG ID, a channel with no matching entries, gaps in one source, or a provider-side metadata issue for those channels.
How to Refresh and Reload EPG Data
- Confirm the channels themselves load first.
- Check whether the service provides EPG data for these channels.
- Refresh or reload the EPG data if the player supports it.
- Wait for the refresh to complete.
- Restart the player if the guide is still empty.
- Confirm the device's date, time and timezone are correct.
- Remove any incorrect manual EPG offset if times are displaced rather than missing.
- Re-check the EPG source or URL where the app exposes it.
- Compare the same service on another compatible player if practical.
- Contact the provider if the source data is missing or broken.
Clearing the app's cache can help if stale data is the problem, but keep it as a later step. Be careful not to confuse clearing cache with clearing app storage or data, which can remove local settings depending on the platform.
If guide data is not configured yet, our guide to setting up EPG for IPTV covers the basics, and if times are displaced rather than missing, our guide to EPG time shifts and offsets explains the difference.
Fix Channel-to-EPG Mapping Problems
For the guide to show the right programme, the player must associate each channel with the corresponding EPG entry. How that association works varies by source and player. If the wrong entry is matched, the guide can be blank or show the wrong programme.
Manual mapping is only possible in players that expose such controls, and each app does it differently. Where such a control exists, adjusting it for the affected channels may help. If it does not, the mismatch may come from the EPG source, playlist metadata, app configuration, or provider-side data.
Two distinctions matter. A wrong programme is not the same as no programme, and a global timezone offset is not a fix for a mapping error. Correct the mapping or the source metadata instead of shifting everything.
When the Problem Is on the Provider Side
The provider may supply incomplete, stale or broken guide data, its EPG servers can fail temporarily, and some channels may never have guide data at all. The package you have may not include EPG for every channel, and rights or schedule availability can vary.
Changing the player cannot create metadata the service does not supply. Contact the provider when several devices or players show the same missing guide, when refreshes repeatedly fail, or when only provider-controlled data is wrong.
| Symptom | Possible area to check | First action |
|---|---|---|
| All channels show "No Information" | EPG source or app-level loading | Refresh the guide and check the source |
| Only a few channels are blank | Channel mapping or per-channel data | Check mapping and reload the guide |
| Guide worked yesterday, empty today | Stale cache or failed refresh | Refresh the EPG and wait |
| Channel plays but has no programme title | Missing metadata for that channel | Confirm the service supplies guide data |
| Programme times are wrong, not missing | Timezone, daylight saving or an offset | Check device time and remove manual offset |
| Same missing EPG on several players | Provider-side data or availability issue | Contact the provider with details |
An EPG problem does not automatically mean a stream problem. Fixing buffering is a separate task, and changing DNS or using a VPN are not general EPG repair methods. Reinstalling the app should come after the source, refresh and mapping checks.
If the channel list itself fails to load rather than the guide, our guide to fixing a blank IPTV channel list covers that separate problem.
